Carrie Bickmore has announced that she will be stepping down from her regular Hit Network drive-time show after receiving an alarming health update.
Sounding strained and emotional, the 45-year-old told listeners on Mondayâs episode of the Carrie and Tommy show that her voice was in a âbad wayâ.
The latest development comes only weeks after Carrie had suffered a nasty head injury in an accident.
It was the first time back on the air for the media veteran after a week off, and Carrie joked it was a âone-night onlyâ appearance before revealing her shocking news.
With her voice cracking, the radio star said she had been to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who confirmed she needed treatment.
Carrie underwent tests which she said were âextremely unpleasantâ.
âThings are not good in there [my throat],â Carrie explained.

âAnd so I have to take some time off work to go get them fixed because if I donât get them fixed now, then they are going to be permanently damaged and that would be very unfortunate for my job,â she said.
Fighting back tears, Carrie said, talking about her break and her health issues was making her âupsetâ.
âIâll be fine, sorry ⊠I donât know why itâs making me so upset. I just donât like letting people down, and I donât like letting myself down.
âI also really love my job, and I donât want to be forced to never do it again,â she continued.
âSo Iâm gonna take some time off and go get it fixed.â
Carrie said that she did not know how long her treatment would take or when she would be back on air.
Elsewhere in the segment, Carrie admitted that her voice had not been ârightâ for some time.
It comes after Carrie revealed the terrifying extent of an injury she sustained to her head while she was taking a break from work last month.

Sharing an update on her Instagram last month, she said she cut an artery after running into a wall, with the wound reaching the bone.
After revealing that the moment looked like a âcrime sceneâ, Carrie shared that she has since undergone treatment for muscle and nerve damage.
Taking to her stories with a photo showing her skull wrapped in a bandage, the radio star shared graphic details about her accident in the caption.
âSo it appears I cut [my scalp] to the bone and cut an artery,â she began.
âSo the surgeon had to repair nerve and muscle damage! Hurts so much, but on the mend now.â
Carrie had previously shared grisly photos of her open wound, explaining she had âwalked into the corner of a wallâ.
An enormous gash had opened up on her head as a result, with Carrie describing the moment in gory detail.
âWalked into the corner of the wall over the break. Looked like a crime scene. Blood spurting from my head,â she wrote.
âGot it glued back together so I could go on holiday with my family the next day. Turns out I have hit a nerve. Healing terribly. And hurting.
âAlso randomly had a lady drop her carry-on suitcase on my head. God, it hurt.â
