Kate Garraway has spoken candidly about the possibility of finding love again nearly two years after the heartbreaking death of her husband Derek Draper.
Derek, who fought a courageous four-year battle with Covid, passed away in January last year, leaving Kate navigating grief, debt, and a new chapter in life.
Now, the Good Morning Britain star admits she is still “mentally in that zone” of the home life she shared with Derek. “I don’t feel as if I can,” she confessed when asked if she was ready to date again. “It’s a weird one, because I wouldn’t like to think I’d spend the rest of my life without love, but also it feels preposterous at the moment to think of being with anyone else.”
Kate reflected on their 21 years together, describing how she and Derek cherished the simple things: “What Derek and I loved was our home life and just pottering around.” Yet she admitted she will have to face reality: “I do realise that, when the time is right, I am not going to meet someone in my living room, so I’m going to have to think about the future at some point.”
Alongside her emotional revelations, Kate is also grappling with mounting financial woes. After selling her £1.5 million second home to tackle debts, she remains almost £300,000 in the red through her media company Praespero 100 Ltd. Accounts show losses of £288,122 in 2024, following £165,011 in 2023.
Her late husband’s psychotherapy firm, Astra Aspera Ltd, also collapsed owing hundreds of thousands, including a huge sum to HMRC. The taxman has since reduced its demand from £716,822 to £288,054, but Kate still faces creditor claims totalling nearly £200,000.
Despite the crushing financial burden and grief, Kate’s honesty about love and the future highlights her resilience. She admits she is not ready now – but when the time comes, she won’t shut the door on love.
