Fiona Phillips’ husband shares never-before-seen “favourite” photo and delivers joyful news as new medication shows results

Martin Frizell has shared a heartfelt update on his wife Fiona Phillips as the couple celebrate a major milestone in their battle with Alzheimer’s.

The former This Morning boss, who has been caring for Fiona since her diagnosis in 2022, revealed their joint memoir Remember When: My Life With Alzheimer’s has soared to number four on the prestigious Sunday Times Bestsellers’ List.

Martin shared his favourite photo of wife Fiona

Posting on social media, Martin said Fiona wanted to thank everyone who had embraced her story, explaining: “She wants to say a massive thank you to everyone who has shown interest in her story, it’s really lifted her mood. Can I also thank the many folk who have been in touch with their own stories.”

Alongside the message, he shared what he described as his “favourite photo” of Fiona – a radiant shot from a TV location shoot. “It shows what a force of life and vitality she had,” he wrote.

Martin admitted Fiona’s condition is still difficult, but said there has been progress with her mood, sleep, and appetite thanks to new medication. “If anything, she’s in a much better place than she was a few weeks ago,” he said.

However, he also revealed that Fiona often feels frustrated watching television, as it reminds her of the decades she spent as a fearless broadcaster. “She’ll get anxious or frightened thinking about it,” Martin admitted. “The whole of Alzheimer’s is horrible, as such.”

Despite the struggles, he ended on a hopeful note, insisting that Fiona is “still very much with us and sharp as a tack.” Martin, who first met Fiona at GMTV in the 90s, described her as “the nicest person I’ve ever met” – a sentiment he still holds firmly today.

The couple, who share two sons Mackenzie and Nathaniel, continue to find joy in simple moments together, like leafing through old photo albums while listening to The Police.
