Farmer Wants A Wife stars reveal behind-the-scenes heartbreak: âItâs not easyâ
Farmer Wants A Wife may have built its reputation as Australiaâs most wholesome show, but behind the romantic sunsets and country charm lies a far more brutal reality.
Sitting down with Daily Mail, the farmers opened up about the hidden heartbreak of filming the hit Channel Seven series, revealing the most difficult part wasnât finding love â it was breaking hearts.
While viewers see contestants leave each week, the farmers say the emotional toll of sending women home knowing their decisions could crush someoneâs hopes was far harder than ever anticipated.
Farmer Jarrad admitted he completely underestimated just how difficult the experience would become.
âThatâs probably the hardest thing,â he said.
âI totally underestimated how difficult that would be, because you want to get to know the girls so you can make the right decision, because youâre trying to find the person that you want to spend the rest of your life with.â

Unlike other dating shows where the drama often takes centre stage, the farmers say the pressure comes from having limited time to make life-changing decisions.
âThereâs not actually a lot of time,â Jarrad explained.
âYouâve got a limited amount of dates. Youâre trying to spread your time out evenly to make the best decision.
âThatâs probably the hardest part of it all.â
The farmer admitted that he quickly realised that every conversation carried significant weight because ultimately someone would be sent home at the end of each week.â
âYouâve got to send someone home each week,â he said. âItâs not easy.â
Farmer Alex agreed, revealing the burden of rejecting women became one of the toughest parts of the journey.
âFor every decision you make, youâre hurting the other potential four or whatever youâve got on your farm,â he said.

âYouâve got to navigate it really carefully.â
The farmers admitted that while audiences often focus on the romance, they were constantly aware that every connection they formed with one woman could unintentionally leave another disappointed.
It wasnât the only challenge they faced.
The men also revealed that dating while being followed by cameras created a whole new level of awkwardness.
Farmer Dylan confessed he was a ânervous wreckâ during the early days of filming and struggled to navigate romantic moments with a production crew watching every move.
âThereâs so many cameras in your face and then youâre trying to talk to ladies,â he said.
âItâs a horrible combination.â
âThe worst bit is that if you lean in and itâs not reciprocated, you look a bit silly and itâs filmed.

Dylan said viewers should brace themselves for some awkward moments as the season unfolds.
âI was awkward as it could get,â he laughed.
âI think thereâs going to be a few that come out.â
Fellow farmer Alex agreed that filming dates in public often made already nerve-wracking situations even stranger.
âThere were definitely moments when weâre in public and thereâs people of the public just around us when weâre being filmed doing date things,â he said.
âItâs a bit strange.â
He added: âYou try and bury it because itâs a TV show, but it definitely is like, âThis is weirdâ.â
Despite the challenges, the farmers say the experience ultimately helped them grow.
Jarrad revealed one of the biggest lessons he learned was becoming more emotionally vulnerable.
âI definitely had my walls up,â he said. âI wouldnât sort of open up too much.
âAfter going through that experience, I feel like Iâm able to be a lot more vulnerable now.â
The farmer said being forced to discuss his feelings every day helped him become more comfortable expressing himself.
âOnce I feel Iâm in a safe place and I trust someone, Iâm definitely a lot better at opening up and talking about how I feel,â he said.
âThatâs one big takeaway from going through this experience.â
While the season promises its fair share of drama, curveballs and unexpected twists, the farmers insist the real story is the emotional rollercoaster that comes with trying to find lasting love.
And if their candid admissions are anything to go by, viewers may want to keep the tissues handy.
Because for the men searching for their forever partner, the hardest part wasnât falling in love.
It was breaking someone elseâs heart.
Farmer Wants A Wife continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Seven and 7Plus.
